Left Bank Comedy Club

Left Bank Comedy Club is back once again. This event is always a sell-out so get your tickets booked fast to enjoy the LOLs and avoid disappointment.

This month, we're joined by comedians Roger Monkhouse, Nina Gilligan and Rob Rouse with Chris Brooker as MC.

Details on each act are below!

Roger Monkhouse

Roger Monkhouse is one of the regular writers on Channel 4’s hugely popular comedy panel show ‘8 Out of 10 Cats.’ He is responsible for scripting up-to-the-minute topical gags every week for the show which features Jimmy Carr alongside team captains Dave Spikey and Sean Lock.

A consummate stand-up who exerts a masterful control over any audience. A highly original and quirky performer, his trademark stage-prowling style and curious, inimitable manner have established him as one of the hottest names on the comedy circuit. Supremely confident, with audience banter down to an art form, he’s happy to improvise freely but has no shortage of first class material in his armoury. Roger is widely regarded as a master of observational comedy with routines that are universally and unfailingly hysterical.

Unfailingly entertaining – a gifted natural” Chortle

Nina Gilligan

Sometimes outrageous, always hilarious, observational and storytelling comedy for all.

Award-winning comedian Nina Gilligan exploded on to the comedy scene in 2011 and is now a regular on the UK circuit, performing at clubs and venues all over the UK. She is now also proving to be a success on the after dinner and sporting dinner circuit.

Over the past few years, Nina has been a finalist in Hilarity Bites, Breaking Acts, Kill for a Seat and Real Radio XS Judged. She won an award for Hot Water Comedian of the Year in 2013 and was a finalist in English Comedian of the Year 2016.

A bolshier Mrs Merton, she's not one to suffer fools lightly - so watch out for a razor sharp wit used at will. Her act will leave you shouting for more!

Rob Rouse

AKA ‘Bottom’ in ‘Upstart Crow’

Rob Rouse’s ‘Bottom’ received a warm welcome with viewers and critics alike on Elton’s keenly anticipated ‘Upstart Crow’ which first aired in the spring of 2016 and was recently voted ‘Best new sitcom’ on the British Comedy Guide. Rob is currently recording series two, playing William Shakespeare’s manservant, alongside David Mitchell, Harry Enfield, Mark Heap, Paula Wilcox, Gemma Whelan, Liza Tarbuck and Spencer Jones.

One of comedy’s most lively, loveable and dynamic performers, Rob won Channel 4’s Prestigious So You Think You’re Funny competition at the Edinburgh Festival in way back in 1998. He’s one of our best comic storytellers, has performed all over the world and works long form narratives into hard-hitting, uncompromising hilarious tales filled with warmth and a sense of compassion for our collective human frailties.

The Ex-Geography teacher has been described critically as “A born clown”, those who really know him may lovingly use the word ‘idiot’. Either way, Rob takes this trademark comedic storytelling to a career high in this show, as he leads us on an irresistibly hilarious journey of enforced introspection and inspired rantings, it’s a real roller-coaster of a show in which he is forced to relinquish any attempts to control his life and to face down literally one of the most awkward situations you’re ever likely to hear about.

Chris Brooker as MC

One of comedy’s heavy hitters, Chris Brooker’s infectious energy and enthusiasm sweeps through a room like an irresistible force. Chris’ combination of hilarious, original material and inspired improvisation means that you will never see the same routine twice. Immensely likeable, there’s no doubting his ability to win over any crowd and drag them along for the ride.

Described only half-accurately as comedy's ginger viking, Chris has taken his brand of comedy and compering all over the UK as well to the US and Canada. In 2008 he made history when he became the first foreign player to be chosen for the All-Star team at the ComedySportz World Championship in Portland, Oregon. Currently in high demand as an MC due to his ability to energise a room and think on his feet, Chris is also a polished performer with three full length solo shows under his belt. The most recent of which, Unstoppable, played to glowing reviews on both sides of the Atlantic.
