Over the past few months, the team at Left Bank Leeds, alongside a dedicated group of volunteers, have been uncovering the places, buildings, and details that make Headingley and Hyde Park such unique neighbourhoods. The result is Framed in Leeds – a new community arts trail launching this September as part of Heritage Open Days 2025, funded by Leeds Civic Trust.
At its heart, Framed in Leeds is about looking closer. These streets are full of architectural gems – from the quirky Victorian Bear Pit to the grandeur of Hinsley Hall – but it’s often the little details that hold the real stories: a carved window frame, a tiled shop front, a faded crest. By framing these details through photography, drawing, and community storytelling, we’re building a creative trail that connects past and present, history and imagination.
A huge thank you goes to our volunteer group – who have been out exploring, photographing and drawing the buildings featured in the trail. Their images zoom in on the overlooked corners of familiar landmarks: the stone tracery of Left Bank Leeds (formerly St Margaret’s Church), the red-brick façade of the Hyde Park Picture House, or the bold Co-operative frontage on Wrangthorn Place.
These photographs and illustrations have become the foundation of the project – not only inspiring our trail design, but also sparking opportunities for the wider community to get involved creatively.
