Cutting Edge Workshop with Ella

You might know the bold silhouettes of Matisse or the whimsical work of RobRyan, but did you know paper cutting is a centuries-old folk tradition found across the globe? From Germany’s scheren schnitte to Ukraine's vytynanka, Japan’s kirigami, and Mexico’s vibrant papel picado, this timeless art form has inspired generations.

In this workshop, you’ll unlock the skills to transform a single sheet ofpaper into something extraordinary. Guided step by step, you’ll first practice how to handle a scalpel, building confidence through simple shapes. Then you’ll bring it all together to craft your own design of a local LS6 landmark: choose between the iconic Left Bank or the vintage Hyde Park Picture House.

All tools and materials are provided: cutting mats, craft knives and blades.Just bring your curiosity and creativity!

Your teacher, Ella, is a skilled paper artist known for her striking silhouettes of city scapes and architecture. Her work reimagines photographs and sketches as intricate cutouts, exploring the deep connections between communities and the spaces they call home.
