This warm, relaxed group offers parents a gentle space to creatively explore the many layers of motherhood. Each session centres around a selection of poems or short literary extracts, which we’ll read together and use as springboards for open conversation. These pieces are chosen to spark reflection, connection, and imagination—no prior knowledge or writing experience needed.
After discussion, participants are invited to respond in whatever way feels most natural: writing poems, journalling, or using simple craft materials to create visual pieces. All approaches are welcome, and there is no expectation to share work unless you wish to. Basic materials will be available but we encourage everyone to bring in any personal notebooks or journals they would like to work on.
The group is facilitated by local poet and mum of two, Esta Innes-Limbachia, who gently guides the sessions and ensures a supportive, inclusive environment. Babies and small children are very welcome; a small play area with toys will be available. While children are accommodated, the heart of the session is to offer parents a creative outlet of their own—a rare moment of pause, expression, and community.
Sessions are free but ticketed to help manage numbers. You’ll also have the option to “pay it forward” by donating a hot drink for another participant.
Please note: this group is not art therapy and does not replace professional mental health support. If you need additional help or guidance, please see local services and resources such as Leeds mental health support: https://www.leeds.gov.uk/adult-social-care/mental-health-services.
