Witness transformation in its most enchanting form. Pages to Mycelium is an immersive, adults-only workshop where forgotten books are reborn through the quiet intelligence of fungi. Bring a second-hand book of your choice, and leave with a living artwork: a volume inoculated with pink oyster mushroom mycelium, ready to slowly bloom and overtake its own pages in the weeks that follow.
Across two hours, we’ll soften and pasteurize our books in hot water, explore the secret life of mycelium, and wander through mushroom folklore—from underground forest networks to the shimmering myths of Amanita muscaria and winter rites. As the books cool, the room fills with steam, stories, and a sense of ritual.
You’ll then learn how to prepare and “bind” your transformed book, tucking spores and substrate between its softened pages. The result is part sculpture, part science, part quiet magic: a discarded object returning itself to the forest floor.
Participants leave with their sealed creation and simple aftercare instructions. Over the next 3–4 weeks, you’ll watch the mycelium colonize its new home—ink, glue, paper, and memory becoming a living artifact of decay and renewal.
An externally facilitated workshop — for all enquiries, please contact the facilitator directly via Eventbrite.
Please ensure you bring a book to work with.
Session cost: £6 (to cover material costs).
