Join contemporary figurative artist Chris Eastham for a free, hands-on creative workshop ahead of her upcoming exhibition Northern Soul at Left Bank (Sept 3 – Oct 10). Based in Leeds, Chris is known for her powerful portrait and figure paintings, strong draughtsmanship, and recent explorations of Northern identity using archive photography. She was a featured contestant on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year and contributed a large-scale mural to Neville Street’s artistic revival.
In this engaging session, you will make a mono print portrait drawing using water-based printing inks. After an informal discussion around themes of identity we will create colourful text to inform and decorate the piece. You will be able to take the piece away with you or have an option to contribute it to a group display for the duration of the exhibition.
All art materials will be provided. Please bring along a picture of someone that you want to make a portrait of. Ideally a photocopied photograph A4 size is ideal, but not essential. The artist can also provide images to work from.
Mono printing is a unique print making method where only one original print is created. The process typically involves applying ink to a smooth surface like glass or plastic, then transferring the image to paper using pressure.
No experience necessary—just curiosity and creativity!
This workshop is free (first come first served) as it is funded by Leeds Cultural Grants.
